Victoria orchestra celebrates decades of music with winter concert

The Greater Victoria Youth Orchestra (GVYO) is celebrating its 39th year as its 60 young musicians prepare to deliver a unique musical experience to residents of the South Island and beyond.

Under the guidance of music director Yariv Aloni, the ensemble will present its winter concert on Feb. 9, at 2:30 p.m. at UVic’s The Farquhar.

The program features three celebrated works, beginning with Mozart’s overture to his opera Don Giovanni. The concert then shifts to the American West with Aaron Copland’s Four Dances from Rodeo before concluding with Edward Elgar’s renowned Enigma Variations. 

Tickets are $26 for adults, $23 for seniors, and $10 for students and children, available through the UVic Ticket Centre at 250-721-8480 or uvic.ca/farquhar.
