Trio brings the blues to Saanich lounge

Vocalist Karen Lovely, bassist Lisa Mann and guitarist Ben Rice will come together for a spectacular show at the V-Lounge in Saanich’s Red Lion Inn on Friday, June 16 courtesy of the Victoria Blues Society.

“These musicians are each accomplished professionals in their own right,” said society chair Deb Rhymer, “so all three of them sharing a stage will be an amazing evening of fine music.”

Vocalist Karen Lovely’s first three albums made the Top 10 favourite artist list for dozens of nationally syndicated American radio stations. Accolades include the 2016 Muddy Award for Performance of the Year. She is currently working on a fourth album.

Bassist and singer Lisa Mann won the American Blues Music Award in both 2015 and 2016 and, having also won many awards from them, is in the Cascade Blues Association’s Hall of Fame. Lisa’s vocals appear on Canadian bluesman Bill Johnson’s Juno-nominated CD, Still Blue.

Guitarist and singer Ben Rice has participated twice in the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, the first time gaining fans with his emotional delivery of Key To The Highway and the second time winning the St. Blues Guitarist award for best guitarist in the solo/duo category.

The Victoria Blues Society, incorporated in 2007, is an affiliate of the Blues Foundation, based in Memphis Tenn. and a is dedicated to preserving blues music, celebrating recording and performance excellence, and supporting blues education.

Tickets are $16 in advance and $20 at the door. The show starts at 8 p.m.
