The Arts and Culture Colwood Society invites folks to step into a “world of grace, strength and beauty,” at the Goldfinch Arts Centre.
Their latest exhibition, Soulscapes fine art show, is a group exhibition featuring four portrait artists, each bringing with them their unique style and perspective.
One of the artists, Cathy Key, is a mixed-media artist known for her large-scale, multi-layered portraits that celebrate the deep connection with the natural world. Key was the winner of the 2023 People’s Choice Award at the Sooke Fine Arts Show and also a 2024 Gold List Award recipient from Art Market Magazine.
Joining Key is Bill Porter, Ken Miner and Victoria artist Ainsley Guzman, who is currently painting the world’s largest portrait of Nelson Mandela for a global humanitarian exhibition.
On Saturday, June 7, from 10 a.m. to noon, the society is offering a unique way to experience the Soulscapes exhibition, with a morning meditation including a live sound bath with singing bowls.
A reflective artist panel will follow the meditation, where they will share insights and answer questions.
“Slow down and experience Soulscapes through stillness and presence,” says the society in a news release.
The bowls will be played by David Maulsby, who has been collecting and playing bowls for many years, alongside his passions for art, nature and meditation.
“When paired with viewing art, singing bowls can enhance the experience by slowing down the viewer’s pace, softening mental chatter, and opening up a more intuitive, emotional connection to the artwork,” explains the society.
Admission to the one-off June 7 meditation experience is free and open to all, but pre-registration is strongly encouraged.
The fine art show runs until June 22.
The Goldfinch Arts Centre is located at 170 Goldfinch Rd. Free parking is available on site and the building is accessible. You can also access the building on foot or by bike from Lagoon Road or Anchorage Avenue.
