The Peninsula Singers filled Sidney’s Mary Winspear Centre with Christmas Joy on Sunday, Dec. 3 — the third in their annual trio of performances to near-sold-out audiences.
Artistic Director Lena Palermo led the Singers and guest performers in a variety of choral music, from a medley of carols to a pair of sing-a-longs with the audience. There was even an emphasis on music that promoted peace at this — and any other — time of the year.
Guest soloists Derry Oshust and Julie Mombourquette each performed their own songs — as well as a duet.
Dancers Maya Sinats, Brooke Furtado, Jordana Griffen and Jenna Spall added their choreography to the evening, while emcee Jim Kingham kept angling for a few Christmas goodies and shared a few seasonal - and corny - jokes in between performances.
There were a variety of performances and music to appeal to the audience. The Peninsula Singers also featured Helping Hands, a personal support services company and one of the evening’s sponsors.
Each year, the Singers donate a portion of the proceeds to the Saanich Peninsula Hospital Foundation’s Music Therapy Program, and Kingham was happy to announce they had now exceeded $45,000 in donations.
