Jennifer Warnes is an American singer and songwriter best known for her rich distinctive voice, her interpretations of work by James Taylor, Leonard Cohen, and Buffy Sainte Marie, and for her association with the soundtracks of a number of popular films during the 1970s, ‘80s and ‘90s.

Her biggest hits include Up Where We Belong (a duet with Joe Cocker, from the 1983 film An Officer and a Gentleman) and (I’ve Had) The Time of My Life (a duet with Bill Medley from the 1988 film Dirty Dancing), both of which topped the Billboard pop singles chart, and Right Time of the Night which reached the top 10 in 1976.

Released in January 1987, Warne’s sixth album Famous Blue Raincoat is a tribute to Canadian icon Cohen, with whom Warnes toured as a backup singer in the 1970s.

In August 2007, the 20th anniversary edition of Famous Blue Raincoat, with a 24-page booklet and four additional songs was released. The Hunter, Warne’s seventh album was re-released in 2009, and her eighth album The Well, which debuted in 2001, was re-released in September 2010.

An evening with three-time Academy Award-winner Warnes is on Wednesday, Sept. 26 at the Alix Goolden Performance Hall‚ 907 Pandora St. Doors open at 6:30 with the show at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $41.50 in advance and $45 at the door‚ available at hightideconcerts.net, Lyle’s Place and Ditch Records.
