A group of choir members from several Vancouver Island churches are coming together to raise funds to end global hunger.

Entrance to the concert is by donation and 100 per cent of the proceeds will go to the Canadian Foodgrains Bank. Through a special partnership with the Government of Canada, donations will be matched by Global Affairs four to one so every dollar donated becomes $5.

“We’re excited about coming together as a community for an evening of great music and to support a good cause,” said concert organizer Donna Vaesen. “We’d like to invite members of the community to join us.”

The concert will feature choir members from Nanaimo, Parksville, Qualicum Beach, and Greater Victoria.

There are more than 100 communities across the country that are looking to host their own common vision concerts this fall. The series also ran in the spring last year.

“Music is a universal language of joy,” Vaesen said. “What better way to celebrate our blessings than being able to share our bounty with those in need throughout the world.”

The concert is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 1 at 7 p.m. at Gordon United Church, 935 Goldstream Ave.
