The West Shore RCMP is looking for community groups and organizations hoping to enhance the West Shore.

The West Shore Community Policing Grant is for community groups, organizations and individuals applying on behalf of a group offering initiatives for reducing crime, promoting public safety or preventing drug and alcohol use.

“In the past we’ve given money supporting graffiti initiatives, youth drug and alcohol prevention groups and we’ve purchased sports equipment for youth,” said Cpl. Kathy Rochlitz.

Each application can receive up to $500 if it meets the requirements.

“We’ve tried to make the process very user friendly,” Rochlitz said. “It’s a great opportunity for us to support local groups in a small way.”

Each application is reviewed and approved by the West Shore RCMP Community Advisory Committee, a group of 14 West Shore residents appointed by organizations and municipalities.

Applications for the West Shore Community Policing Grant can be picked up at the West Shore RCMP detachment, located at 698 Atkins Ave.

Due date for proposals is February 28.
