The Town of View Royal is set to disburse nearly $60,000 in grants-in-aid to community organizations this year.

Council approved $59,160 to be split between 12 organizations at Tuesday’s (March 21) regular council meeting, and has invited two more groups to present at an April meeting to consider issuing them grants as well.

The highest-value grant by far has been awarded to School District 61, which is set to receive $41,000 from the town this year.

The Peninsula Streams Society received the second largest at $7,600, followed by the Juan de Fuca Performing Arts Centre Society, Victoria Sexual Assault Centre and Vancouver Island South Film and Media Commission – each set to receive $2,000.

Ocean Ambassadors Canada will receive $1,000, while the 3rd Arbutus Scout Group is set to receive $810, and FED Urban Agriculture Society $750.

Rounding out the list of community grants are the Spectrum Community School Dry Grad, The Bike Victoria Society, the African Heritage Association of Vancouver Island, and the Victoria Brain Injury Society, each set to receive $500.

Council will be considering grants for the View Royal Community Association and View Royal Reading Centre, which have received grants in the past, after council receives more information from the groups.
