A group of Victoria optometrists is offering a chance to see Taylor Swift's The Eras Tour as a way to help prevent myopia.

Three local optometry offices — Lifetime Eyecare, Ray Dahl and Cadboro Bay Optometry — have joined forces to give away two Eras Tour tickets along with hotel stay to one lucky child who attends their annual eye exam.

“We were inspired to do the contest by the huge public interest in getting to see Taylor Swift perform in Vancouver, and understanding how hard it is to get tickets to see her shows,” said Aisha Cheng, an optometrist and partner at the Peninsula Lifetime Eyecare Centre. “We wanted to be able to give two tickets to a family so they could go see her last show of The Eras Tour Dec. 8 in Vancouver and in doing so, also promote the importance of routine eye exams for children.”

Children coming in for an exam will be entered for a chance to win a pair of tickets, with extra contest entries given to those who purchase myopia-control lenses.

While the contest is only for children, it's a good reminder for parents to get their children's eyes checked. Myopia, more commonly called nearsightedness, is a common eye condition that makes faraway objects appear blurry and out of focus.

The group of optometrists is using Swift's massive tour as an opportunity to highlight the importance of eye care early on in life, highlighting that it can be slowed using specially designed glasses or contact lenses. So far their plan seems to be working.

“We have seen an influx in children's exam bookings this month and are excited to announce the winner of the contest on Dec. 4.”
