Swing by Staples, grab a burger and a beverage and help a family struggling with the cost of back to school supplies.

Staples WestShore and the Sooke Lions Club are teaming up for an annual fundraiser, with all proceeds donated to Parents Advisory Councils in the Sooke School District to help families facing difficulty with the cost of school supplies this fall.

The event takes place Wednesday, Aug. 23 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Staples WestShore, 789 McCallum Rd.

Last year’s barbecue raised $8,000 as part of Staples Stuff the Locker program. It’s another example of how Staples assists families facing financial difficulties arising from the costs associated with preparing their children for school, said Gerry Denis, manager of Staples WestShore.

“The support from the community for this event has always been great,” Denis noted. “We’ve set a goal of $10,000 this year to help more families.”

You can purchase a freshly barbecued burger, chips and pop for $5, or two hot dogs, chips and a beverage for $6.

There’s also raffle tickets available for a chance to win a Bose speaker set and a Beats Audio headset, each valued at more than $250.

The draw will take place Sept. 5 at 8:30 a.m., with all proceeds supporting local PACs as well.
