While school children were carolling, the Grinch was prowling the grounds of Colwood City Hall, as the community came together to mark the start of the holiday season.
For the city's Christmas Light Up on Thursday (Dec. 5), hundreds of people braved the cold to enjoy the festivities.
Welcoming the crowds, Mayor Doug Kobayashi encouraged everyone to use the evening as an opportunity to celebrate friends, family, neighbours and the community.
And as people did just that – while enjoying free hot dogs donated by Red Barn – children from local schools provided musical entertainment.
This year there were performances from all five of Colwood’s elementary schools – Wishart, Sangster, Colwood, David Cameron and John Stubbs.
Rounding off the evening was a visit from the man of the hour himself, Santa Claus, who arrived onboard a Colwood fire truck.
