New riding’s MP, Alistair MacGregor, opens up shop in Langford

Constituency office hosting inaugural open house Friday

Alistair MacGregor will soon be in the house.

The new Cowichan-Malahat-Langford MP hosts an open house celebrating the official launch of his Langford community office after winning a seat in last October’s federal election.

“Langford is a rapidly growing and important commercial hub for the West Shore communities, and it is a very important population centre in the riding of Cowichan-Malahat-Langford,” the rookie MP said. “I made a commitment to open a community office here to establish a good working relationship with local politicians, community leaders and residents.”

The longtime case worker for former Nanaimo-Cowichan MP Jean Crowder, MacGregor serves a riding spanning more than 4,000 square kilometres. His team has already opened a location in Duncan where he lives, taking over the community site Crowder’s staff occupied during her time in office.

MacGregor said despite the riding having a large geographical footprint, he is up to the challenge of logging significant time travelling, taking inspiration from MPs with even larger ridings when he hits the road.

“I really have grown to love Langford a lot. I travelled a lot there during the election campaign … for me to travel the Malahat to visit the people of Langford is no issue and I enjoy doing it.”

The open house happens today (May 27) from 4 to 6 p.m. at 3202B Happy Valley Rd., and light refreshments will be served. BC NDP leader John Horgan is among the speakers for the formal portion of the event, starting at 5 p.m.

The constituency office is open now and available for drop-in on Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Appointments are accepted on Mondays and Fridays.
