Name chosen for Royal Bay secondary school

With more than 1,300 votes cast on five finalist names, Royal Bay secondary school won handily.

The future Royal Bay-area secondary school now has a name: Royal Bay secondary school.

With more than 1,300 votes cast on five finalist names, Royal Bay won handily, with 48 per cent of the vote. Second place was the name Olympic View secondary school, which received 21 per cent of the vote.

Other possible names included Elizabeth Fisher secondary and Salish Sea secondary.

An announcement is expected soon for the design and build team for the school.

A groundbreaking for the new Belmont secondary school is taking place next week, on June 27 at the Glen Lake-area site.

Both schools are expected to open Sept. 2015.
