The sound of music will echo throughout Langford’s downtown core this weekend.

Sunday, July 8 marks the kick off of the annual Music in the Park series at Veterans Memorial Park, where residents young and old can tap their toes and dance to music from a number of artists from around the Island.

“The bands are really talented. It’s a fun afternoon for people to go out. I think people really have a good time,” event co-ordinator Peter Willing said. “It’s a nice time to sit around on the grass, and enjoy some good music and get up and dance … It’s a nice thing to support locally and the fact that it’s free and you get to hear this great talent is a pretty good deal.”

This year’s lineup includes performances by returning favourites such as Freeze Frame, Fat Cat Band, Rukus, Elkhorn Ridge and Undertow. New this year residents can hear music from Kooler, Montgomery Country and Super Sauce.

Willing said the event gives residents a chance to hear different genres of live music in a family-friendly setting.

“It’s nice to see people out smiling,” Willing said. “Music always makes people feel good, especially live music.”

The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 91 will also be running a concession with hot dogs, chips and pop. Money raised will go towards community initiatives.

The two-month music festival runs from 2 to 4 p.m. every Sunday until Aug. 28. For more information visit langford.ca.
