An annual fundraiser generated more than $14,000 in donations for Saanich Peninsula Lions Food Bank.
Jim Townley, president of the Saanichton Village Association, which organized the 17th Saanichton Community Christmas fundraiser on Dec. 4, said the amount reflects incredible generosity.
This year’s total is almost double the amount raised last year, prompting Townley to say it takes a village to make positive things happen.

The day included a variety of events, including horse-drawn carriage rides through Saanichton Village courtesy of Tally-Ho Carriage Tours, photos with Santa, and the Christmas Tree Trail, which sees families walk the village searching for horse stuffies hidden within Christmas trees located at more than 20 different merchants. The trees were given away as prizes at the end of the event.
The District of Central Saanich, local police and volunteer firefighters, participating local businesses, St. Mary’s Church and local residents who showed up to make donations helped make the event a resounding success, Townley said.
