Metchosin Minute: event listings for late February

From film night to cooking, lots happening in the rural municipality

Friday, Feb. 24

Metchosin Film Night features Occupy Love, at 7 p.m. in the Metchosin Community House, 4430 Happy Valley Rd.

This documentary by Vancouver filmmaker Velcrow Ripper focuses on the increasing number of people who seek a better, more loving, understanding and human world than that produced by existing institutions. For more information email ricperron@shaw.ca.

– Also taking place this Friday in the Community House, Jeremy Tatum hosts a talk, Moths and Butterflies of Metchosin. This talk starts at 7 p.m. and may be followed with a walk through the community.

Saturday, Feb. 25

The first of four cooking/dining evenings gets underway at 6:30 p.m. Local chefs will demonstrate and talk participants through preparation of items on a pre-set menu, then everyone will sit down to enjoy the results.

Lessons and preparation are expected to take about half an hour. The fee is $30, which covers the cost of food and the priceless lesson. For more information call 250-478-5155.

Ongoing events at the Metchosin Community House:

– On the second and fourth Mondays of the month, the Rough Voice Choir takes over the House from 7 to 9 p.m. Singers at all skill levels are welcome to drop in and sing their hearts out. The fee is $2, with proceeds going to the House.
