The District of Sooke will install a memorial plaque in honour of Cam Sullivan, a Sooke resident who met a tragic death on Dec. 17.

Sullivan was working at a tree falling job on Eaglecrest Drive in Sooke when an accident took his life.

He left behind his partner Katie, a young daughter, and a group of friends, who describe him as a man who was kind, spontaneous, brilliant, and funny.

Sullivan’s death came a month shy of his 30th birthday, according to a fundraising site established to support the family. That site has raised more than $21,000 in support of the family.

At council’s brief deliberations on the matter Monday, it was noted Sullivan was as an employee of one of the district’s contractors, and was instrumental in lighting the large Christmas trees in the town center and at Municipal Hall each year.

The plaque will be installed at Municipal Hall, adjacent to the grand fir at the entrance to the parking lot.

Municipal staff will work with Sullivan’s family to develop the appropriate wording for the plaque and invite council and family for its unveiling at a later date.
