A prominent canine figure on local trails is being remembered for his legacy on the West Shore.

A memorial for Winston (2010 to 2023) has been set up at the dog library on the Galloping Goose Trail at Happy Valley Road and Glen Forest Way in Metchosin.

Winston’s Dog Library has a take a stick, leave a stick policy and has become a popular attraction. There’s even a puppy section.

“Winston loved sticks almost as much as he loved people – and he really loved people. He made friends wherever he went,” the memorial reads.

After his retirement, he collected sticks during his daily walks along the Galloping Goose and created this dog library.

“Maybe someone will establish another – I hope so. Winston dreamed of branches all over the Island.”
