July is here and that means music lovers will soon be descending upon Veterans Memorial Park for weekly shows featuring a variety of talent.

Langford’s Music in the Park continues to grow in popularity and this year it will feature groups specilizing in genres from soul to bluegrass across its eight-week run, starting with the Soul Sonics (July 9, from 2 until 4 p.m.).

Organizer Peter Willing said that getting a mix of artists is important when he’s building the lineup and that bands looking to play have to book early most years as the event continues to surge in popularity. This year’s lineup was confirmed over the winter, Willing noted.

“It just seems to have molded into a well-oiled machine and it seems to work well,” he said, adding that he tends to rotate bands from year to year while also looking to bring in fresh talent.

Willing pointed out that the nearby splash park helps give the series a great family atmosphere and the Langford Legion will have food for sale for hungry concert goers.

Fat Cat will be featured the following week (July 16) with Barkley Sound slated for the July 23 show. Pointless also takes to the stage on July 30.

All shows begin at 2 p.m. on Sundays and the series will continue until the end of August.
