Langford waits to support homeless project

Council holds support until local support is gained

A farm aimed at getting homeless people off the streets won’t receive support from the City of Langford until Central Saanich gives the project the green light.

Woodwynn Farms and the Creating Homefulness Society are seeking written support from West Shore municipalities, in their bid for a three-year permit to increase activities at the Woodwynn Farms Therapeutic Community for the Homeless.

Langford council voted Dec. 7 to respond with a letter saying the City could not support the project until it gained full support of Central Saanich. Councillors worried the farm may be contravening local bylaws and did not want to condone any activity that was doing so.
