Kim O'Donohue's photo of a heron at Esquimalt wins the Goldstream News Gazette's first Reader Photo of the Week award.

Gazette Reader Photo of the Week July 23/14

Kim O'Donohue of Langford sent us this week's winning shot

Langford resident Kim O’Donohue was fast with her camera last week during a trip down to Esquimalt Lagoon.

She happened to catch a heron in action, either landing or taking off, we’re not sure. Nonetheless, the unusual motion captured and the well-defined feathers made this photo stand out for us.

“I like it because it looks like the heron is dancing and striking a pose!” writes O’Donahue, who wins a gift card as this week’s winner.

If you’ve got a photo from the West Shore of people places or things and want to share it with our readers, the Goldstream News Gazette can help you out with that. Every Wednesday, we publish our pick for Reader Photo of the Week. To have your photo considered for publication, simply email us a high-resolution .jpg copy to editor@goldstreamgazette.com.

Please include your name, contact information including municipality of residence, where you took the photo and what you like about the image. Entries must be received by 5 p.m. Fridays to be included for consideration for the following week’s paper.

Weekly winners will also be posted on the Gazette’s Facebook and Twitter pages. Good luck!
