West Shore residents can prepare for the next emergency, while also supporting a local school as part of a fundraiser this week.

In the wake of the tsunami warning last month, Hans Helgesen Elementary school in Metchosin is offering emergency preparedness kits through Get My Kit.

Kits include everything residents need to survive a post-disaster for three to five days, including food and water rations, hygiene products, emergency blankets, a tube tent, flashlights, a radio and basic first aid supplies among other things.

Residents can purchase Get My Kits at the school on Friday, Feb. 16 (today) from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Free pet kits will also be available.

Those who are unable to make it to the fundraiser can purchase the kits online with the code “hans25” to receive $25 off the purchase until Feb. 23.

The company will also donate $25 to the school.
