Colwood city hall is accepting wireless devices to keep them out of landfills and help give them new life.
The Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association (CWTA) is providing a drop box in the building for people to recycle both accessories and cellphones, so materials can be reused in manufacturing new products, the city’s website says.

The Recycle My Cell initiative is asking for mobile devices “regardless of brand, model age or condition” of the product.
“We do not accept cordless phones, walkie-talkies, non-wireless PDAs, Mp3 players, any battery not commonly found in a cell phone (example: single use batteries), laptop computers or answering machines,” it states.
The devices and accessories go to recycling facilities to be dismantled for scrap or refurbished and resold, according to CWTA.
Recycle My Cell has more than 2,700 drop off locations across Canada, according to its website. It adds the program has recovered 7.5 million devices since 2005.
