Council helps fund Wishart elementary school mural

Previous mural was painted over after 25 years due to wear and tear

Colwood council has agreed to help fund a mural at Wishart elementary by donating $3,500 from its arts reserve.

Vice-principal Tim Murphy was joined by several Wishart students and spoke to the importance of the project at a recent council meeting.

“When you enter a school … you want to know what that property’s about,” he said, adding the school’s previous mural had to be painted over because of wear and tear over the course of 25 years.

The school’s staff and parents advisory committee raised the other $3,500.

Coun. Cynthia Day recalled the previous mural when her kids were attending the school.

“It really did form a part of the community … this is going a long way to bring back some life into the community that was lost,” she said.
