Arrows fly in View Royal competition

View Royal competition registers scores in Archery Canada’s ranking system

Victoria Bowmen Archery hosted a World Archery Round this past weekend, June 21 and 22.

The men shot at four distances spanning 90, 70, 50 and 30 metres. The archers shot 36 arrows at each distance totalling 144.

Six men competed in the event in three classes: bow hunter open, compound and recurve.

On Sunday, Sergey Bolutenko shot 144 arrows from one distance in two 72-arrow rounds.

He was the only competitor in the event shooting in the senior division in the recurve class.

“Shooting 144 arrows is fairly gruelling,” said Al Wills, president of Victoria Bowmen Archery. “Every time you draw the string back it’s 40 pounds.”

At a standard archery event each competitor generally shoots between 60 to 90 arrows.

The View Royal competition was a registered round with all scores registered in Archery Canada’s ranking system.
