With the Victoria Grizzlies the last local junior team in the playoffs, the B.C. Hockey League semifinal series continued on the West Shore this week, with game 5 set for Chilliwack on Friday (April 7). If needed, game 6 will happen the next night at 7 p.m. at The Q Centre. Turning to rugby, the Westshore Valkyries premier women line up for a playoff match against the Castaway Wanderers at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday (April 8) at Windsor Park, while the Div. 1 Westshore 1 men host Nanaimo 1 in a playoff game at Juan de Fuca for a 1 p.m. start.

High school athletes get busy this week. On the rugby pitch, the Belmont senior boys host the Oak Bay A team at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday, April 13, after the junior squad hosts the junior boys at 2:30 p.m.

Badminton returns next Tuesday (April 11), with Belmont visiting Victor Brodeur at 3:45 p.m. and Royal Bay heading to Spectrum at 3:45 p.m. Play continues Thursday when Belmont hosts Spectrum at 3:45 p.m. and Royal Bay plays at Edward Milne at 3:45 p.m.

Senior girls’ soccer also kicks off at 3:45 p.m. next Tuesday when Royal Bay plays Parklands at Blue Heron Park in North Saanich. Royal Bay continues play on the Thursday, hosting Glenlyon Norfolk School at the Royal Bay turf for a 3:30 p.m. start.

Riders put the pedal to the pavement for the Cross Country Short Loop event Tuesday, April 11 with a 3 p.m. start at Hartland. Next up is an April 18 race at Western Speedway.

For West Shore ball hockey athletes with their eye on higher-level competition, the Greater Victoria Minor Ball Hockey has added a local Team B.C. tryout Sunday, April 30 for players born from 1998 to 2003. For more information and to register visit vmbh.ca.

Premier-level baseball has the regional Victoria Eagles opening play at Lambrick Park with a doubleheader against the Parksville Royals next Saturday, April 15 with the first pitches at 12:05 p.m. and 2:35 p.m.
