It’s a big weekend of racing at Western Speedway. The B.C. Street Stock Invitational fills the oval Saturday, Sept. 2 and Sunday, Sept. 3 as the fastest late-model drivers in B.C. and the Pacific Northwest battle for bragging rights in Reg Midgley Canada 200 qualifying, followed by qualifying races to determine the starting lineup of Sunday’s 200-lap race.

Also on hand will be the B.C. street stocks competing for the Billy Foster Memorial, mini stocks, Old Timers Racing Association and Hornets, all in action for a full night of qualifying, heat races and feature events. Day two of racing gets underway Sunday with 200 grueling laps to crown 2017’s Reg Midgley Canada 200 champion.

Grandstands open both days at 4:30 p.m. with qualifying at 5:30 p.m., fan fest at 6 p.m. (time permitting) and racing at 6:30 p.m. For more information and tickets visit westernspeedway.net.

This weekend marks the end of the Westshore cricket regular season and it’s a busy one. With summer ending, fall activities are ready to entertain. Mark your calenders, the start of the Westshore Rugby season coming up on Saturday, Sept. 9 when the Men’s Premier team takes on the University of Victoria squad at UVic at 1 p.m.

Soccer is also set to return to the pitch. Div. 1 men’s play opens Saturday, Sept. 9 with a roadtrip for Westcastle United, facing Cowichan FC in a 4 p.m. tilt at the Sherman Road field.

Turning to hockey, the Westshore Wolves are back in action this week, hosting the Kerry Park Islanders at The Q Centre Wednesday, Sept. 6. Come cheer on your Vancouver Island junior B hockey squad when the puck drops 7 p.m. Come Saturday, Sept. 9, the Wolves host the Oceanside Generals, also at 7 p.m. at The Q Centre.
