Metchosin cricketers are back in action when they hit the Beacon Hill pitch to take on Albion for a noon start. Looking ahead to noon next Saturday, Aug. 5, Metchosin welcomes the United team for a noon start on home turf, at Metchosin municipal grounds.

The University of Victoria Cricket Club welcomes the region’s players to a fundraiser Aug. 7, when they host international cricket player and IPL coach Eric Simons at the Beacon Hill Park cricket ground. A three-hour bowling clinic (3 to 6 p.m.) costs $50 per club (Div. 1 only) and each club may send two bowlers. A two-hour seminar followed by a question-and-answer session runs from 7 to 9 p.m. and costs $20. In thrilling track action this weekend, Western Speedway welcomes Monster Truck Weekend, starting tonight (July 28) and continuing tomorrow. Highlights include Rock Star, California Kid, Pound Hound, Reverse Racer, Deogee and Identity Theft showing off their car crushing and wheelie popping skills in freestyle monster truck action. Also on the calendar are the Demo Series, Bombers, Claimers and Drifters.

In regional sports, Victoria HarbourCats follow their weekend roadtrip with three evening games against the Bellingham Bells, July 31, Aug. 1 and 2 at Royal Athletic Park.
