Western Speedway celebrated the Canada Day long weekend in style with two days of racing action for the Used.ca Mid Season Championship. The weekend featured racing in five classes, with the AMCA Dwarf Cars, Wayne’s Trucking Winged Sprint Cars, Galaxy Motors Stock Cars, Sooke Disposal Mini Stocks, and the Marlin Motors Hornets all hitting the track.

Saturday night’s featured main event was the AMCA Dwarf Car Invitational, with Dwarf Cars from all across the Pacific Northwest competing for 30 laps. Kelowna’s Danny Karslake and Victoria’s Derrick Street led the field of twenty-two cars to the green flag, with Karslake leading early.

On lap seven, Brad Struck made a move on Karslake for the lead, and would briefly pull away from the field. Mike Meeres, the night’s fast qualifier, and Stewart Lee worked their way up to second and third respectively, and traded the lead back and forth with Struck for the next 10 laps.

On lap nineteen, a caution flag for a crash involving Riley Carter, Kyle Kennedy, and Tovay Helgesen interrupted the lead battle and tightened up the field for a restart. When the green flag dropped, Lee and Meeres went around Struck for the lead, with all three drivers entering turn one side by side.

Meeres and Lee battled for the next seven laps, but the caution came out with just four laps remaining for Adam Smith and Tyler Peters, who both spun in separate incidents. On the restart, Meeres got the jump, with Lee falling back to fourth. The Courtenay driver hung on for the main event win, with Brad Scafe, Danny Karslake, Stewart Lee, and Derrick Street rounding out the top five.

The next race at Western Speedway is the Tire Exchange Eve of Destruction, featuring the Crusher Car Jump and Van Blow Up, Boat Races, Skid Plate Races, a Total Destruction Demo Derby, and the LORDCO Auto Parts Demo Series.
