RE: Women of the Westshore special section (Gazette, April, 28)

That was a great news supplement of the Women of the Westshore. It’s about time people knew the value of our women (by the way, I’m a guy). Years ago in the ’70s, I was general manager of a large security company in England. It was run very similar to the military and male dominated. Well, one day I received a letter from the government stating I had to employ at least twenty per cent female employees. I opposed this idea from the start. How could you employ women on mobile night patrols in Tiger Bay, Cardiff? One of the most dangerious ports on the planet. Or send them out in an armoured car that could be attacked at any time?

Our company also had a major contract to guard airports all over the country, and we were instructed to employ female guards to manage the searches of female passengers on the airlines.

What a surprise, these women not only operated with a high degree of efficiency and tenacity, they planned and improved the methods used. I was amazed at what my female staff were achieving.

My attitude now, if I had the choice, I would only employ women. They are fiercely loyal, dependable, hard working, smart, and now work in levels of senior management.

The world has been missing out on not promoting women into any category. Well done ladies.
