Mayor Stew Young is at odds with the CRD board over its transportation plans. As he notes transportation authority lies elsewhere than with the CRD board.

So why act as if it does? This is the gist, it seems, of his objections.

He has a point.

That said, the mayor and the province might consider what transportation authority vested in regional government — which the CRD is not — might achieve. Rapid transit, for example, as in Waterloo Region’s ION bus and rail rapid transit system.

Hopefully the premier will consider how rapid transit might be advanced in Greater Victoria when he looks at the transportation potential of the E&N corridor.
