It’s no secret that the media industry is in flux.

Prior to the dawning of the digital age, consumers were content to wait for the newspaper and read the latest stories from their community over breakfast. Some still are, but many are now looking to consume their news in a variety of formats and 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

While we remain committed to delivering our stories to West Shore residents through our award-winning print product, we’ve also increased our commitment to our online offering in order to better serve our readership.

In recent weeks you may have noticed that the Gazette has received a new look online. If you haven’t, head on over to goldstreamgazette.com and check out our new website.

There you’ll find the latest West Shore news laid out in a format that we believe is a significant upgrade over our previous site. You’ll find stories from our print edition, but you’ll also find extra web-only stories, from news and community events to sports and entertainment.

But the biggest change you’ll see in the new website is with a multitude of digial-only content.

Many of the stories you’ll read in print are online and many feature a number of multimedia elements that can only be found on the web. Whether it’s videos, photo galleries, or even just extended versions of the stories you love reading in the paper, you can find them online first.

We’ve even got a space at the top of our page that’s reserved at all times for a video post. That content will mostly be produced by the staff here at the Gazette, but videos from Black Press publications around the province will be featured, too. We also welcome your submissions to editor@goldstreamgazette.com.

Sub-sections also exist for local news, sports and entertainment, as well as specific pages for each of the West Shore’s major sports teams.

But we haven’t just stopped at giving our website an overhaul. We’ve also branched out on social media in an effort to make sure you’re getting the latest, breaking news as fast as possible. You can still find us on Twitter (@goldstreamnews) and Facebook (facebook.com/GoldstreamNewsGazette) and now we’re on Instagram (search for Goldstream Gazette or log on to instagram.com/goldstreamgazette). Be sure to like all of our pages.

With this push further into the digital realm we hope to continue to deliver the stories we know you love to read, or watch, in a way that’s most convenient for you.
