The West Shore RCMP caught two thieves in the act who were trying to steal a utility trailer from the driveway of a Colwood home over the weekend.

On Saturday at around 2:50 a.m. police responded to a report of two suspicious people in the back of a Colwood house. When police arrived, the two suspects, who are known to police, fled, but were caught after a short foot pursuit.

After searching the suspects’ vehicle, officers also found other stolen property from the home.

“The homeowner did a great job of calling the police and providing us with timely information which lead to the arrest of the two suspects,” said Const. Matthew Baker of the West Shore RCMP. “Both suspects were actively engaged in criminal acts [and] we got them off the streets.”

Thirty-three-year-old Justin Goeujon of Sooke and 24-year-old Crystal Thorne of Nanaimo were arrested and charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5000. Thorne was also arrested on an outstanding arrest warrant out of Victoria.
