A kitchen fire in Langford night on Saturday was contained to the oven before it could cause any major damage.

Firefighters from the Langford and Metchosin departments responded to a call at about 10:40 p.m. in a three-storey townhouse complex on Kestrel Ridge, after a fire started when oil used for basting splashed onto the oven’s elements. The smoke detector was activated when the oven door was opened, resulting to a 911 call, said Langford Assistant Fire Chief Chris Aubrey.

There were no injuries and the amount of water damage from the sprinkler system was not significant, Aubrey noted.
