Langford Fire Rescue has had its share of calls this week.

The department responded to a vehicle fire on Latoria Road at approximately 7:15 p.m. Monday. The fire had been contained and almost extinguished when crews arrived on scene but the truck was destroyed. That fire is believed to have been caused by oily rags left in the box of the truck.

The department has also seen a spike in smoking related calls as the mercury continues to rise. A number of these fires have occurred in flower beds or other areas cover in bark mulch and were ignited by discarded cigarettes. It’s a trend that has the department urging residents to refrain from tossing lit cigarettes onto the ground.
