Don’t freak out if you see local RCMP, the K9 Unit and airport security at the airport tomorrow.

A security exercise is going down at the Victoria International Airport (YYJ) on Friday, June 16 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Several simulated components will be incorporated into the scenario so travellers aren’t disturbed too much.

Two locations, one in Departures Check-in and one in the Arrivals Rotunda will be cordoned off with signage indicating an exercise is in progress. Signs will also be posted throughout the terminal building and along the curb front outside the airport.

James Bogusz, vice-president of operations and development with the Victoria Airport Authority, says nothing generated the need for this particular security exercise – it’s routine. He adds things will be “business as usual” and travellers shouldn’t expect any delays as a result.
