Intruder’s snores alert North Park resident

Groggy man allegedly resists detainment, bites officer

Imagine being woken in the middle of the night to loud snores coming from a stranger in your dining room.

A North Park man, who lives alone, encountered a male intruder asleep, head down, at the dining room table.

Three Victoria police officers responded to the 911 call at a Bay Street residence at 3:20 a.m. Wednesday. They saw that the suspect was sound asleep with his pants down around his ankles.

“Fortunately, in obvious preparation for the sleeping part of his sojourn, he was wearing pyjamas underneath his other clothing,” John Ducker, Victoria deputy police chief, posted on the department’s online operations blog.

Officers say they smelled alcohol on the suspect, who proved difficult to wake.

During his detainment, the man allegedly kicked out several times as he was being escorted from the premises, Ducker said. One officer said he was bitten on the arm before the suspect could be placed inside a police van.

The suspect, who police believe entered the residence through an unlocked door, is being held on charges of being unlawfully in a dwelling and assaulting a peace officer.
