The quick actions of a homeowner prevented an electrical fire from spreading Friday morning.

Langford Fire Chief Chris Aubrey said crews were called to a house near Bellamy Road and Phelps Avenue just after 11 a.m. after an electrical panel caught fire.

Tenants were renting the home but had recently moved out and the owner was doing some work to prepare the home to be moved or demolished. He turned on the power and the fire caught. He was able to contain the blaze and crews quickly extinguished it once they arrived on scene.

BC Hydro also attended and disconnected power to the home.
