Belmont students knocking for food

Watch for teens at your doorstep seeking food tonight (Dec. 12)

Belmont secondary students canvass the streets of Langford, Colwood and Metchosin tonight (Dec. 12) in search of food donations.

Between 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 the door-to-door campaign aims to collect more than 10,000 non-perishable food items for the annual event called 10,000 Tonight.

“Last year was a record year for us and we want to break 10,000 items this year too,” said Grade 12 student Justine Ivanisevic.

Last year the students surpassed their goal handing over 15,451 food items to the food bank.

“It’s great for the community. Poverty is increasing and low-income families are increasing. It’s in our community and we need to make the connection,” she said.

Students will be in the north gym at Belmont collecting food and sorting donations.
