Accident on Trans Canada Highway

Multi-vehicle accident near Goldstream Park closes busy highway.

A large commercial vehicle leaking fluid caused a closure of the Trans Canada Highway on Tuesday.

West Shore RCMP were called to the scene at approximately 8:01 a.m. when the commercial vehicle had pulled over after leaving a one-kilometre slick along the northbound lane of the Malahat.

A marked police vehicle, pulled over to attend the scene, was subsequently struck by another vehicle slipping on the slick liquid.

"At this point we believe it was engine fluid that was leaking from the vehicle, so it was towed, a marked police vehicle was towed, as well as one vehicle that spun out on the highway," said Const. Joanne Harrison of the West Shore RCMP. "Thankfully no injuries."

The Malahat was closed in both directions for approximately 45 minutes, there is no indication of speed or alcohol being a factor in the accident.
