Distraught male on Goldstream park trestle safe
A distraught man who was on a trestle in Goldstream provincial park Tuesday, Aug. 19 is safe.
At 10:30 a.m. West Shore RCMP responded to a request from the Victoria police to try and locate the man in the park, where RCMP patrol officers, dog handler and police dog "Tito" found the man within minutes.
The Vancouver Island RCMP Negotiator Team attended the scene to reach out to the man, and Langford Fire and Rescue was also brought in due to the challenging nature of the environment of the trestle.
The man walked off the bridge on his own at 4:30 p.m. and was taken to hospital.
West Shore Staff Sgt. Steve Wright said they "truly appreciate the work of our support teams."
Cpl. Kathy Rochlitz, spokesperson for the RCMP, also stressed that the trestles in Goldstream park are still part of an active railway, and not meant for public use.
