RCMP arrest suspect in weekend vehicle fire

A man faces charges after a fire in Langford last weekend.

Langford Fire Rescue called in West Shore RCMP Sunday (Nov. 25) after responding to a vehicle fire in the 2600 block of Sooke Road shortly before 4 a.m. Witnesses said a man was trying door handles and peering into vehicles in the area prior to the fire.

Officers searched the area, RCMP said, and found a vehicle with an open door and scattered debris indicating someone attempted to set a fire there as well. Police located a suspect who matched the witness description. He was arrested and taken into police custody.

“This investigation was a combination of efforts by the public, Langford Fire and Rescue and the West Shore RCMP,” said Acting Sgt. Kathy Rochlitz. “It shows how when the public calls to report something suspicious we are able to respond and use the information to help solve a crime.”

Erik Greek, 23, faces charges of breach of probation, two counts of arson and two counts of theft.
