Scammers target 93-year-old woman
Fraud artists posing as handymen targeted a 93-year-old Langford woman.
On Jan. 12 two men visited the home of the woman and suggested she needed roof repairs. One of the men inspected the roof and said it could be repaired for $600.
The woman handed over the money and the men were not heard from again, although the cheque has been cashed. She was unable to provide police a description of the men.
West Shore RCMP Cpl. Kathy Rochlitz reminds homeowners to be vigilant about allowing strangers into their homes and to be diligent in determining the legitimacy of the business.
Ask for referrals, identification and seek a second opinion if you are unsure about whether services are required. Should you feel that there is suspicious activity in your neighbourhood please do not hesitate in calling police.
Anyone with information about this fraud, or believe you may have been a victim of a similar scam contact West Shore RCMP at 250-474-2264, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
