Four West Shore air cadets navigated the Victoria Orienteering Competition to earn top honours.

The competition tested cadets’ athletic, navigation and problem-solving skills with a timed 11- or 13-control point orienteering-style course. The cadet that earns the highest score by reaching the most points wins.

Four members of the 848 Royal Roads Squadron in Langford took home gold medals from last weekend’s events. Leading Air Cadet Jaydin Caldwell and Leading Air Cadet Gavin Kuzyk won in the junior category, while Warrant Officer Second Class Ben Thompson and Flight Sgt. Samuel Staples both took third in the senior category but as a team earned first overall.

The West Shore cadets were up against counterparts from Saanich and Victoria. The competition was held at the University of Victoria and was organized by the Victoria Orienteering Club.
