Royal Roads University Canada Research Chair, Ann Dale won the Canada Council for the Arts Molson Prize for the Social Sciences. Dale will receive the award June 5 at the upcoming Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences in Victoria.
“I am particularly delighted to receive this award because I have tried very hard to integrate the arts into my research,” said Dale who earned it for her social sciences and humanities work. “Using visuals can be a powerful motivator for action in climate studies as people can’t ‘see’ the impact until it is too late.”
Dale plans to use the funds to write a follow up to her award-winning book, At the Edge.
“We are so pleased that our Canada Research Chair Ann Dale is being celebrated nationally for her significant contribution to sustainable communities as well as her teaching and research mentorship,” said Allan Cahoon, president and vice-chancellor of Royal Roads University. “It’s a very competitive award, so it’s an honour for her to be chosen.”
Two Canada Council Molson Prizes, worth $50,000 each, are awarded each year. The arts award went to Ojibway author Richard Wagamese.
The selection committee described her as “one of Canada’s foremost academics in sustainable community development, an activist within the environmental movement, and an innovator in environmental education and civic engagement.”
