Non-fiction literary events mark alumni week at UVic

A Taste of Camp Life with Stewart and Gill is set for 7 p.m., on Feb. 7 at Cabin 12, 607 Pandora Ave.

The lifestyles of oil rig campies and tree planters will be up for discussion this Tuesday during two literary events hosted by the University of Victoria’s departments of English and writing.

UVic writing alumnus Barbara Stewart will discuss her memoir Campie, a reflection on working the lowest position on an Alberta oil rig, while Vancouver author Charlotte Gill will speak to her new book Eating Dirt. Both works have been nominated for top literary honours.

A Taste of Camp Life with Stewart and Gill is set for 7 p.m. on Feb. 7 at Cabin 12, 607 Pandora Ave. A reading and book signing with Gill will take place at 1 p.m., also on Feb. 7, in room B111 of UVic’s Cornett building.
