Highlands cleans up Caleb Pike water system

A kitchen upgrade is the final step in Caleb Pike Heritage Park improvements.

A kitchen upgrade is the final step in Caleb Pike Heritage Park improvements.

The project started in the spring of 2012 with Highlands repairing one water well and replacing the other. This summer the septic field was replaced with a sand field in a new location.

The water system got a full overhaul with a new ultra violet treatment system and water storage. “This way it doesn’t stress out the well when there is high public demand,” said Mayor Jane Mendum.

The improvements were made to ensure the district was adhering the water regulations set by Island Health, formally Vancouver Island Health Authority.
