Canadian Tire shuts down for small electrical fire

The problem could have been associated with a heavy morning frost causing a increased demand on power to the building.

Langford's Canadian Tire has to close its doors late Thursday morning (Nov. 21) after a fire in the building's main electrical panel.

Langford Fire Chief Bob Beckett said he doesn't know the cause of the fire, but after the fire department made sure it was out, BC Hydro came on the scene to tackle the problem.

"I'm not sure how much damage. There was no fire situation, it burned itself out by the time we got there, but the power's off and the store's closed," Beckett said.

The problem could have been associated with a heavy morning frost, Beckett said, causing a increased demand on power to the building.

Beckett expected the store to open later Thursday afternoon.
