Whether you’re a first-time mom, grandmother or relative eager to lend a helping hand, the fair includes talks by professionals on a variety of topics, including breastfeeding, healthy eating, preparing budgets and more. Spend some quality time and build connections with others experiencing pregnancy or raising preschoolers. Find out from those in the know eager to share their expertise on resources ranging from buying your first home, daycares and nannies. You can also access information on the latest safety recalls and how to install car seats, which will help make the decisions ahead easier.

A host of small businesses will be selling their products, including items you may need such as maternity wear, baby and toddler clothing, car seats and strollers.

PR Photo Creations will have an on-site studio set up for photos which will be entered in a contest. It’s best to bring your baby to the photo studio early, as space for the contest is limited. Participating parents will receive a 5 by 7 print after the fair. Additional prints can be ordered, with proceeds assisting the Y Young Moms Program.

Babies less than a year old can take part in the Baby Races for a chance to win prizes.

The Vancouver Island Baby Fair takes place Saturday, Sept. 30 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, Oct. 1 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Pearkes Recreation Centre at 3100 Tillicum Rd.

Admission is $8 per person or $10 for a weekend pass, and kids under 12 are free.
