Summer programs offer variety at Juan de Fuca library

A variety of summer literacy fun and other activities is coming up at the Juan de Fuca branch of the Greater Victoria Public Library.

Happening Thursday (July 24) from 10:30 to 11 a.m. in the JF meeting room is Storytimes and Puppet Plays, a free program of stories, songs, rhymes and puppets aimed at younger children. Kids under three must be accompanied by an adult and no registration is required.

On Saturday (July 26), people with interests in backyard growing can attend an orientation session for the Victoria Seed Library, an initiative developed by the GVPL and Lifecycles. Attendees will receive an introduction to using the seed library, connect with other seed savers and discover resources available for backyard growers.

Register for this free program at gvpl.ca/programs-events/ then click on Home, Garden and Travel and find the event on July 26. It runs from 10:30 a.m. to noon.

Starting Monday (July 28) and running four consecutive days from 1 to 4 p.m., youth age 12 to 16 are invited to check out the Travelling Puppet Show’s puppetry workshop. Explore character creation, script writing and performance preparation during this four-day mini-camp. On the final day participants will perform their show for children and receive volunteer hours for school for doing so.

To register, go to gvpl.ca/programs-events/ and click on Crafts and Hobbies under Kids and Tweens. Find the program under July 28 on the calendar.

For any other programs happening at the Juan de Fuca or Goudy branches of the library, visit gvpl.ca.
